Online exhibition of original crow drawings

In this gallery, you'll find the corvid species I captured in my drawings and a bit about the city that hosted the exhibition, the very fabulous and amazingly friendly Newcastle upon Tyne.

I take hundreds of photos every time I go out crow spotting, roughly a quarter of which only get the rear end of them as they fly off. I am compiling the best of these and will be launching a campaign for the Big Book of Butts because it's too funny not to

Most of the carrion crow photos I have were taken in Walker park about half a mile from my studio. The birds got to know me and as soon as the peanuts were out, dozens would suddenly appear from the trees

To get complete images of birds standing, I tempted them out onto a hard area so I could see their fabulous feet

There were so few sunny days this year - it's actually been our second worst harvest on record in the UK because it rained so much, so when it did come out everyone overheated immediately. Including these two who were just sat in the cool grass together, very unusual to see crows still on the ground for any length of time.

Next to the park is this gorgeous churchyard where I got a few more photos. You wouldn't think this rolling vista is in the middle of a massive housing estate would you?

Crow stalking gear :)

My magpies - I wasn't sure if I'd actually get any because while very common, they are more wary of people than the crows and don't normally stick around. It took a lot of patience and a lot of peanuts to get any images I could work with so those I have are rather special

On the flip side, the bird I thought I'd get loads of pictures of because the are on every rooftop was the jackdaw. Unfortunately, they flatly refused to come down off the rooftops until I'd given up and was on my way home on the very last day when this cheeky chap with his brilliant blue eyes decided to mug me for snacks

Newcastle is a glorious jumble of architectural styles spanning centuries, one of the things I do especially like is funny little pubs like this one that stand alone, I always feel there's a story in there...

Speaking of jumbles, there are lots of odd little corners, tunnels and stairs made up of bits of different buildings form different eras

Newcastle is known for its bridges, this is my personal favourite, the high level bridge with its striking iron walkways at either side

A local legend, the vampire rabbit :) Nobody is quite sure why he's like that but we love him. He's perched above a doorway overlooking the cathedral.

You don't get many crows inside the cathedral but you do get a lot of very beautiful things nonetheless, like the altar. I'm not religious in any way but I have spent hours in here just marvelling at the artistry

Being a goth, figured I'd finish our tour with this elaborately carved tomb.
